Gynecologic Surgery at St. Mary’s Women and Family Care
We want your medical home to be our state-of-the-art office in Barboursville, West Virginia. You deserve to be surrounded by people who truly care for you and are dedicated to personal and professional excellence. The providers and staff at Women and Family Care are dedicated to providing you exceptional personalized health care. Our growing list of surgical services includes:
Minimally Invasive Surgery
Minimally invasive surgery is simply using surgical techniques that require smaller incisions or no abdominal incisions in order to minimize discomfort and maximize surgical results. The surgeons at Women and Family Care are dedicated to respecting body tissue and causing the least damage to body tissue as possible in all our surgical techniques. Benefits of smaller or fewer incisions include:
- Quicker recovery times
- Less post-operative pain
- Quicker return to the typical woman's busy routine.
The physicians at Women and Family Care are the leading gynecologic surgeons in robotic surgery in the Tri-State area. They are able to perform nearly 90% of their hysteroctomies robotically. In robotically-assisted surgery, the surgeon manipulates the robotic surgical instruments, which are much smaller than his own hands, through very small incisions. The ability to maneuver small instruments easy allows better visualization of internal body structures with less trauma to the tissue. We have seen the following benefits in our robotic-assisted hysterectomy patients:
- Patients are going home within 24 hours of surgery
- Excellent cosmetic results
- Experiencing very limited pain.
In-Office Surgical Procedures
New developments in surgical techniques have allowed some procedures that were once done in a hospital setting to be done in the office. The benefits of in-office procedures go far beyond time and financial savings to our patients. In-office procedures eliminate the need for general anesthesia and the risks associated. Our patients are afforded a safe, efficient, comfortable alternative. We are currently offering the following procedures:
- Loop Electrosurgical Excision Procedure (LEEP)
- Endometrial ablation
Pelvic Support and Bladder Surgery
Women and Family Care is pleased to have one of the area's leading teams for bladder and pelvic support issues. We specialize in the surgical techniques necessary to improve incontinence and pelvic support problems. We are the only office in the area to office in-office bladder flow studies. These tests are interpreted promptly by our own physicians so your diagnosis and treatment are not delayed. We work with the pelvic floor rehab team at SMMC to provide the best results possible for our patients.
